Memory Constellations.
Virtual space will increasingly transcend from physical reality simulation into environments without direct natural equivalents. The emphasis will be in structuring information, so that we may access it faster and more efficiently.
This proposal should leave behind graphical or sculptural approach common in trees of knowledge or similar hierarchical structures of information. It develops methods of spatial self-organisation of information combined with automatic creation of a communication interface. In development, it is now only a mockup of the real engine and may look hierarchical because the evolution of data was stopped for the presentation.
Upon visiting a web page, the engine assigns it a central graphical position in the 3D memory space. In that moment, a slightly turbulent repulsive movement emanating from the same center will affect it. Similarly to the galaxy drift, addresses will start to spread, with the logical consequence that pages visited first will be further away.
Another process of organization starts after a first visit to a page. The more connections and traffic between two pages=addresses=information elements, the closer they get, mutual spatial attraction following mutual logical dependence. The structures built in virtual space will represent personal association fields. As constellations, these will have spatial representations not necessarily dependent on spatial connections. Bounds will be established between discreet relating information entities, with the objective to automatically attain minimal information amount for a single statement, eliminating redundancies. Each information will be provided with a spatial icon to which spatial connections will be made. This new spatial information architecture will provide a new interface for web memories, using the experience of built architecture with up to date logical techniques and unseen/unimaginable outputs. For mnemotechnic reasons similar to the ancient discourses pasted into imaginary buildings for the sake of better remembrance, volumes will be generated around connections. These will also be dependent on the importance of a site and on traffic to and from other locations. Moreover, spatial traces of past development shall be left behind through connection points.
The space do not have a privileged viewpoint. All the curves and surfaces were created with strictly spatial processes not connected to any top/front/side/perspective evaluation. They are described through forces, fields and evolution in time. All static representation is distorting. The result in its geometry tries to be complex, dynamic, true, and not to follow sculptural intention or esthetic tradition.
